Learn from your mistakes, fight and travel!

Flying The Nest is a travel blog created by 2 young Australian travellers,Stephen Parry & Jess Valentine in September 2014. They also have a Youtube channel of their day-to-day life as they travel around the globe.

Love at first trip; was travelling that connecting factor?
In 2017 our 10-year anniversary will happen, which means we met in high school and travel wasn’t really viable when your casual job stacking grocery stores funded a trip to Maccas rather than Asia.

By the time we went travelling I think we had built a solid relationship and even though there have been some ups and downs whilst abroad, we have learnt from every strain to make the next one even better.

How smooth is the trip with your partner, any tantrums? How travel compatible are you?
When you travel there are bound to be moments when you come across a road block or a hiccup on your trip. Yes, you may get frustrated at each but it’s what you do afterwards that really counts. Learn from your mistakes, chat about the argument you had and move on. If you start holding grudges on a trip which generally goes for a week or two, you won’t enjoy yourself as much as moving passed it.

Any trip that wouldn’t have been impossible without the other person?
Every trip haha. I honestly have the highest respect for solo travellers but nothing beats watching the sunrise at a Cambodian temple with some one you love and can reflect on at a later date.

A date under the sky on beach, dessert or mountains for the Valentine’s day.
Mountains any day. I think because we are so used to beautiful sunsets on the beach here in Australia, you want to opt into something a bit different. Give us the Canadian Rockies any time of the year.

Any scheme/saving tips for young couples travelling?
That everyone pays their own way. Travel is not the place to put forward your chivalry as it will only put a strain on your funds and your fun. I think it is more than fair for each to pay their own, split the accommodation and if you really want to treat your partner, save it for a romantic dinner.
