The Taste of Thane

It’s amazing to have your tummies filled after a long, very long day at work. Food itself is refreshment, lifts up your moods and spirits ! Good food is good life, and what if it was cheap? Imagine, all the goodness of amazing aroma, taste and experience you feel, the very basic “Mumbai tadka” clubbed in a single basic plate of missal pav!! Makes my mouth water!

Thane is a hub for students and working class Mumbaikars. Of course they need a break from their nagging work and unending syllabi. That explains the need to come out into the open and “lift up their spirits”(read as fill up their bellies).

This sister city of Mumbai  is not just known for the vast layout and planned infrastructure but also the eateries and street food.

Hop into any of the below for lip smacking food without burning a hole in your pocket –

People swear by the panipuri and chaats served by this chat corner. Known for its Dahi Puri and Pani Puri , it also excels in cheese grilled Sandwich! If you don’t want anything desi, go ahead and ask for the numerous burgers they serve. Don’t forget to try the Desi Pizzas. They will be a surprise to your taste buds.  I won’t wonder if you end up ordering for another. For two the bill will not cross 100INR. Location: Naupada

Located Near Vartak Nagar Madhyamik Vidhyalaya, its newer as compared to the above chaat joint, but don’t go by its experience. The plethora of chaats , Ragda Puri, Sev Puri, and Dahi Puri is not only filling but exemplary to look at and definitely delicious.  The teekhi chatni will make the spicy eaters keep coming back for more. Don’t forget to ask for the Jain version of every dish!

ARE YOU A TRUE MUMBAIKAR? And love to eat Vada Pav, and haven’t tried the one served at Kunj Vihar? Well then friends its time you make a special trip to Thane just for a bite into the mushy round balls enveloped by the chatni smeared pavs. Trust me when I say, they are huge and one vada pav will fill your tummy quite well, although you can go through the other savories they offer make sure you try out the chutney accompaniments.

Not everyone are into Chaats and Puris,  for all you big eaters and Chinese lovers, here is heaven for you all. Located on the eastern express highway, opposite to nitin company, the suits and the uniforms alike flock to this tiny little place for a bite of the deliciously tossed up greasy Chinese food.  Amazing quantity and great taste, what else can a Chinese lover ask for?

For all you Maggi lovers here is place made just for you!! Apart from being wholesome, nutritious and filling , they have variety of ways of serving it. One of my personal favourite is the sandwich version. The awesome fusion of cheese, Maggi, veggies and sauce sandwiched between three layers of bread and topped with maggi and cheese is a sight of its own let alone the taste. You can ask for various sauces like mayonnaise and etc for addition price. It is located at Jambhli Naka.

For all the Jonnys out there who would bite into anything sweet here is a place tailored just for you! From Roshogollas to Rasmalais its all here in this sweet heaven. A must try is their special Falooda. The combination of Rabdis and Falooda topped with flavoured syrup, dry fruits will only sound make belief to you unless you try. Make sure you finish it before it melts.  LOCATION: Kopri market.

Masala Dosa, Cheese Dosa, Paper Dosa, have become mainstream.  Now the new “Thallaiva” style is chilly Paneer Dosa, Noodle Paneer Dosa, Manchurian Dosa. And believe me, they would perk your taste buds like never before. Might sound outlandish, but they are a plethora of flavors, fusion of these astounding south Indian delicacy with a dash of Punjabi and Chinese nuance.

How about all these food a cup of awesome tea , maybe we can break the stereotypical masala chai and try something new. Don’t be surprised my dear reader, at AYZA you will get a menu full of tea but before you get lost in the aroma of the tea try out the Sulemani Chai and the Ginger Tea. Approaching monsoon ,fall for this , what better than watching the rain as you quietly sip on a steaming glass of tea!

Come to this haven cut out for the north Indian people. Try out the litthi choka, a dish from Bihar, it is a healthy alternative to the greasy street foods. These are coal roasted dumplings made of wheat flour , roasted gram flour and ajwain served with choka which comprises of eggplant, potato, tomato, ginger, garlic, green chillies and mustard and an array of other condiments. Hold your breath, each litthi is served with a dollop of desi ghee. Uhhh!

Missal pav an absolute aboriginal dish of Maharashtra, spicy, chatpata and chatakdaar , you will come back to maamledaar for more. You can try for the teekhi missal and go for cool beverages like chaas, yogurt and lassi. One of the oldest fast food joint and located just outside the station its easy for the busy people to pop a bite on their way to their work or around. Alas, beware of the long but fast moving queue at this joint.
